Surprise, Surprise!! Thursday, October 9, 2008 - Well the Stock Market has tanked again... only this time into the trillions. I will never understand why anyone would invest money into stocks. Most of these companies have no hard liquidation assets, and the stocks are way overvalued and oversold. I have seen estimates that some stocks have sold at 10 times their actual worth.
Through all this gloom land values have held, and I see no indication that they will not continue to rise. Land is the most pure form of real estate investment.
The recent housing downturn was basically caused by the Banks artificially bringing more people into the market that did not belong there in the first place. It was basically a giant Ponzi scheme that finally ran it's course. Since almost all land is sold on a cash basis there is no potential for Bank manipulation of the market, consequently appreciation is real and reliable as history has proved out. In the instances where financing of land is available a buyer gets the best of both worlds, a leveraged investment and true appreciation based on a cash market.
The results of our auctions in September indicate that Land Investment is strong and growing in spite of all the Media negativity concerning the economy. In the coming months I expect more and more Investors to move their money into hard asset Land Investments.
