PRINT THE MONEY Saturday, October 11, 2008 - How bad is the Stock Market collapse? Out of curiosity I took an historical look at todays downturn compared to previous periods. So far today we are down 38.3% from the peak. Is it possible for history to repeat itself? If it does, the DOW will be at 1,733!?!?!
Start End High Low Variance 1929 1932 343 43 -87.5% 1937 1938 186 99 -47.2% 1972 1974 1,020 616 -39.6% 1987 1987 2,596 1,939 -25.3% 1999 2001 11,497 8,847 -23.0% 2002 2002 10,404 7,952 -23.6% 2007 2008 13,896 8,579 -38.3%
Well let's not panic, because our Heroes in Washington are going to bail us all out. And we can be sure they're going to watch out for our money this time around...
Of course the 2,300 pet projects including a 2 million dollar study of animal hibernation had to be added to the 700 billion to get everyone to agree to pass the bill. I have heard figures of an extra 130 billion that was added to the 700 billion. And where is all this money coming from? I know a little about economics and I know that if the Feds just start printing more money as I am pretty sure they will we are going to see a substantial increase in inflation. I read some where that General Motors stock had dropped to 1950 prices. Are They Kidding? 1950 dollars I guess are worth at least 10 times more than todays dollars. There is only one proven way to hedge against the upcoming inflation, and that is Real Estate. And Land has proven to me to be the most reliable form of Real Estate investment.
